IRB Basics 1- Designed for new IRB members
This workshop, designed for new IRB members, provides an introduction to human subjects' research protections including a historical perspective, an overview of the regulations and techniques for completing project reviews.
OHRP Compliance Letters: What Can We Learn? - Designed for IRB members and IRB staff
This session provides an overview of recent OHRP compliance determination letters, with an emphasis on lessons that can be learned from these letters.
When is an Activity Research? Program Evaluation and Quality Assurance - Designed for all interested parties
Determining whether an activity is "research" and needs to be submitted to an IRB is not always easy, especially when the project involves program evaluation or quality assurance. This session will discuss program evaluation and quality assurance as they relate to research and IRB review.

Breakout Session 2
Clinical Emergency Research: Unplanned vs. Planned - Designed for IRB members and IRB staff
This session will discuss the review mechanisms and requirements of unplanned and planned emergency research.
Deciding the Appropriate Type of Review: Exempt, Expedited, Convened IRB - Designed for all interested parties
The determination of the appropriate type of review must conform to federal regulations on the protection of human subjects, and inappropriate use of the different types of review may result in noncompliance with these regulations, as illustrated in recent OHRP Compliance Determination letters. This session will address questions such as "How do you determine the appropriate type of review?", "When and how do you change the type of review?" and "What role do the IRB staff, IRB chairs, IRB members and investigators have in the determination process?".
IRB Basics 2 - Designed for new IRB members
This session is a continuation of IRB Basics 1 and includes a mock review of an IRB application by participants.
Tips on How to Facilitate the MSU IRB Review Process - Designed for MSU faculty, staff and students
