Created by the U.S. National Commission for the Protection of Human Subjects, the Belmont Report is one of the founding ethical documents in the U.S. for the protection of human subjects in research. The Belmont Report discusses the fundamental ethical principles (respect for persons, beneficence, justice) when conducting research on humans. Practical recommendations on how to apply these ethical principles are also provided, including informed consent, assessment of risks and benefits and selection of subjects.
